Modern Dance arrived on the American dance scene at the beginning of the 20th century. This form of dance evolved from the desire for more artistic freedom and the need for the less rigid constraints of the classical ballet and musical theatre of the time.
From the simplicity of Isadora Duncan to the raw, strong and sharp lines of Martha Graham, modern dance has evolved into the 21st century with the myriad techniques and styles of Paul Taylor, Alvin Ailey and many many more.
Today’s modern dance is a fusion of many styles and a hybrid of many techniques and approaches.
Sullivan Dance Centre exposes its students to several specific techniques of modern dance including the Cunningham method and Limon technique all while keeping a strong ballet influence at the core of this training.
